The movie belongs to vocal and movable three-dimensional art, while the painting that isthe different art between both dimensional art spaces is part of the two-dimensional art oftwo-dimensional image, which is analyzed from art angle of dimensional space. However, bothmovie and painting fall under the category of graphic arts. They carry the abundant informationelements and spiritual connotation as subject, and play the strong propagation and transmissionfunctions as object.The art that Painter Liu Xuedong represents “the New Generations” and the one thatDirector Jiao Change does “the Sixth-Generation Movie Director” are considered to be differentdimensional spaces. However, their same value, social responsibility and artistic backgroundhave made their artistic pursuit be the realistic art philosophy. The roles of grass-roots symbols intheir artistic works interpret the survival state of the social bottom in an attitude of calmness,silence but not anger on the way of pursuing reality. It is neither "high""big" and "all" heroicrealism during the "red" color real stage, nor "scarring" pessimistic realism art. It is a truerealism without eulogy, praise, criticism and modification in essence.The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part represents that Director Jia Zhangke andPainter Liu Xuedong cooperatively filmed in China Three Gorges to record the movie “East”painted by Painter Liu Xuedong, and explores both artists’ common aesthetic value and artisticconcept. Their common realism art concepts possess multiple common and value, which is wellworth researching. Consequently, the theory is proposed to study Liu Xiaodong and JiaZhangke’s realism art.The second part presents the background and reasons for the formation of Liu Xiaodongand Jia Zhangke’s Art from angles of time development and social change, respectively.Aesthetic value and practical significance are mainly elaborated to commonly reflect realisticelements and the present social bottom figure in Liu Xiaodong and Jia Zhangke’s artistic works.What kind of state people of the bottom in the present social environment in explains bothartist’s interpretation and expression for the Realism.The last part discusses that Liu Xiaodong and Jia Zhangke interpret and express the Realismin their common and distinct artistic ideological trends, and annotate a new definition and valueof the Realism in their own manners. The art philosophy of the Realism expressed by LiuXiaodong and Jia Zhangke in the state of the bottom in the present social environment reflectsthe essence of a new realism, which is the central idea to discuss in this thesis.
