Abstract/Summary:
This article is entitled "Argument on the Role of The Book of Songs in thePolitical Philosophy of Mencius", which aims to probe into the relationship betweenM’encius poetry and his political philosophy. Full-text of this article, the combinationof the combed text and the analysis of moral pirnciples as the research method,political philosophy of Mencius as the main clue, discusses its relevance between hisPolitical Philosophy and the text of The Book of Songs and draws the expected defaultand, finally, this article makes a summary of the methodological and realisticsigniifcance of Mencius using poetry.The whole text is divided into three chapters.The first chapter introduces the background and poetic features of Mencius.Mencius lived in a chaotic era when heresy of different ideas prevailed, benevolentideas declined, brutal people allied to be stronger, the invasion and wars declared,mutual respect and trust disappeared, the common people went bankrupt. In order tosolve these social problems, his political philosophy (ideas) came into being. TheBook of Songs was ifrst deleted and revised to be a book by Confucius, and as acarirer of ritual and educational mateirals for disciples, it widespread in the society.Mencius inherited and developed some poetic point of Confucius’ view.The second chapter discusses the relationship between the political philosophy ofMencius and The Book of Songs. The "political philosophy of Mencius" here actuallyrefers to th’e part of Mencius ideas relevant to political governance, and to someextent is different rfom the Western so-called" political philosophy,T. This part mainlydiscusses the Mencius’ benevolent ideas,thoughts of enlightening people, the ideas ofshairng fun, the thought of following the example of the Duke Zhou,and alsodiscusses the historical view of “irot and governance in iteratively" and “end up withcentralized unity". These discussions are combined with The Book of Songs, which onthe one hand argues with the characteirstics of Mencius using the poetic discourse, onthe other hand tires to find the source of these ideas in the The Book of Songs,The third chapter summairzed the first two chapters and continued to probe intothe methodological significance and practical significance of Mencius using poetry. The enlightening ifxnction of The Book of Songs is worthy of attention, and politicalphilosophy of Mencius, which also proceeds rfom the human-oirentation, and makesfull use of this enlightening function to form an ideology.Highlights of this article are the argument for King Wen. From the sufifcientevidence and the tight argument demonstrated, we can draw the conclusion that theimage of the King Wen in the book "Mencius" came rfom "The Book of Songs"...
