A Survey Of Middle School Students' Language In Jiaozuo City

With the development of society, the awareness of language will continue to enhance. how to strengthen the protection of dialects, becoming the core of language work. The language surveys of middle school students in city Jiaozuo, can inspect the effectiveness of the Mandarin promotion in Jiaozuo; on the other hand, we can understand the characteristics of the development in Jiaozuo dialect, it has considerable practical significance for the protection of Jiaozuo dialect. Researches on the study of students’ language, from range to depth is constantly expanding and extending. The research is abundant in the more developed regions, especially for Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing and so on. And for such a small city like Jiaozuo city, research on contemporary students’ language state is not much.This research mainly from four aspects to examine Jiaozuo students present language situation, which are language skills, language environment and language attitudes. From the survey data we can sum up the attitude of the Mandarin as well as dialect in Jiaozuo middle school students. The main method of the investigation are questionnaire, random observation, and focus group interviews which are routine method in sociolinguistic. In addition, part of the survey also use the voice recognition experiment and voice matching experiment and so on.The survey results showed that:in public communication, the Mandarin have become the preferred language of communication for contemporary Jiaozuo city high school students. However, Jiaozuo dialect still occupies a pivotal position in modern life. Most of Jiaozuo students can skillfully use both two languages to communicate, which indicated that now Jiaozuo high school students have become a veritable "double spokesperson" group. However, the dialect, is no longer a purely communicative language, now it is positioned like a common value identity of speech recognition which is focused on the use of language. Therefore, I believe the relationship between Jiaozuo Dialect and Mandarin is not mutually exclusive; Instead, Jiaozuo dialect and Mandarin will be positioned in different roles coexist for a long time.
