Enlightenment is a very important vocabulary in the discourse context of China;it not only involves the field of thought and culture, but also has real influence on thedevelopment of Chinese literature. In the1980s, with changes in the ideological andcultural fields, the word got into the field of vision of the intellectuals and ordinarypeople once again. In the meantime, due to the change and development of the society,people in the1990s began to reflect on the value of enlightenment, coming into beinga strong trend of "anti enlightenment", and the literature concept began to change,such as the deconstruction enlightenment, enlightenment and deny the enlightenmentdigestion. So the existence of enlightenment and anti enlightenment runs counter tothe discourse context in this period.Yu Hua’s novels are active in the1980s and1990s and have been extended to thenew century, the creation time happens to fit in the enlightenment and antienlightenment context formation period. Therefore, Yu Hua’s novel creation processcatches up with the "new enlightenment" and vigorous development, experiencing"the upsurge of anti enlightenment" momentum, even witness a fierce game betweenenlightenment and anti enlightenment. Therefore, there are some doubts about YuHua’s novels reconsidering the context, that is Yu Hua’s novels existe in the context ofthe enlightenment and anti enlightenment and are in conformity with the trend of "thenew enlightenment movement", as well as continue the spirit of the Enlightenment ofthe May Fourth kernel and absorb the "essence of the new enlightenment" to expressthe thought of something consciousness of enlightenment and value or with a uniquenarrative attitude of "Enlightenment" for reflection, deconstruction, digestion andnegation, which conforms to the ninety’s "anti enlightenment discourse"?In this paper, the author will discuss potential enlightenment pointing and antienlightenment attitude of Yu Hua’s novels through careful reading, combining withthe results of previous studies, based on which point out that in Yu Hua’s novels, theenlightenment and anti enlightenment are existing conflict. The paper is divided intothree chapters, with the enlightenment and anti enlightenment core connotation as thestart point, and analyses and discusses the existence of potential enlightenmentpointing and anti enlightenment attitude of Yu Hua’s novel. The first chapter startswith the concept of enlightenment and anti enlightenment. The first three coreelements indicate the enlightenment rationalism, are questioning spirit and humanism,and then sort out the formation of anti enlightenment and essence, identify the periodbetween the80’s and90’s the reality of enlightenment and anti enlightenment existingconflict. The second chapter is on to the discussion of potential enlightenment of YuHua’s novels, which is divided into three sections: the first is analysis of the spirit of the question on his novel; the second is the analysis of the story of suffering humanity;the third is the analysis and thinking on the reason of the reflective critique of thenovel. The three sections don’t care the spirit of enlightenment three connotations,which verifies the Yu Hua novel has the potential to enlightenment. The third chapteris about the anti enlightenment attitude on the novels of Yu Hua, also divided intothree sections, respectively, from the "refused to readers" way of speaking andphilosophical inquiry, the attitude of giving up folk narrative, the enlightenment andenlightenment that market-oriented as three writing angle to prove that Yu Hua hasanti enlightenment attitude in the creation shape of novel. The conclusion partsummarizes the first two parts and points out that the unique existence ofenlightenment and anti enlightenment phenomenon is not in Yu Hua’s novels, butwith a certain degree of universality, which is worthy of further study.
