The comparison between the hometowns memories founded by Xiao Hong and Chi Zijianhas been chosen as the research topic because of the author’s fondness towards these two womenwriters from northeast China and because of many similarities and characteristics between theirliterature creations. Meanwhile their literature creations have their own characters. Through theliterature works of these two writers, the author has found that most of their literature works areabout hometowns for the reason that they hold a strong feeling which constructs the emotionundertone of their works. At the same time, due to different historical background, lifeexperiences, and aesthetic pursuits, they have different narrative styles: desolation and warmth. This thesis starts from their hometown memories. According to hometown customs, compassionfeelings from children’s perspectives, and concerns for rural women from feminist perspectives, the author tries to find out the two writers’ literature expression under the different historicalbackground but in the same region, which, consequently, helps to discuss the deep relationbetween regions and literatures and individualities and universalities.Memories of the hometown of both Xiao Hong and Chi Zijian reflecting in their literatureworks have their relevant narrative space---“Hulan river” and “arctic village”. As women writersborn in the same black soil, they care for their nature and social customs with a newborn baby’spure heart and write the people, the hills and the affairs happened in their hometown with a deepnostalgia feeling. The differences which are among the life experiences, historical background, and aesthetic pursuits make their literature creations show their own special natural landscapeand customs in the same region characteristic.Xiao Hong and Chi Zijian invariably choose their literary creation from children’sperspective, which is inseparable from their childhood experiences and childhood complex. Theyshow pictures of fun-filled childhood life to the readers, observing the adult world throughchildren’s eyes, showing the original features of the primitive society and penetrating the goodand evil of humanity. They concern about the people’s lives of their hometown with compassion. However, due to the different experiences of their childhood, their works also show differentsadness and warmth behind different children’s perspectives. As women, Xiao Hong and Chi Zijian have a deep and clear insight into the fate of women, and they describe objectively the living conditions and survival status of women. Theycomprehend everything what the rural women said and did with their own life experiences andcare for the marginalized groups---the women with compassion. However, they are also different.Owning to her own repeated patriarchal social harm experience, Xiao Hong rebels against malesupremacy and she resolves male authority with the modern civilization she accepted and pursues female independence and freedom. Living in a warm and happy family and starting fromconsciousness of gender awareness, Chi Zijian faces the differences between males and femalesand pursues harmonious living of them.Because of the same hometown haunting, desolation and warmth, two very distinctemotional tones, link together. And they shine together in the regional literature.
