This thesis mainly research Foeniculum vulgare Mill. by SPME, SDE, GC/MS and TLC(thin layer chromatography). This dissertation consists of five chapters. The first chapter was the analyses of volatile oil chemical composition from fennel fruit in different regions. The second chapter reported comparison of different extraction methods on fennel fruit. The third chapter described the qualitative fennel of different origin with SDE-GC/MS analysis. In the fourth chapter, we introduced the comparison of chemical compositions and their anticancer activities between Yunnan and Gansu fennel fruit. Finally a brief overview of fennel use, chemcial composition and pharmacological activities were summarized.In Chapter 1. The research showed that the change of composition from the species on longitude increased firstly and then trended smoothly finally, and there were most kinds in chemical constituents around 110°east longitude. With the increase of latitude from south to north, the kinds of the chemical composition were increased.Main ingredients were star anise, methyl chavicol-methoxy benzene, formaldehyde. The main components in total were different due to the different region.There was declination between from south to north and from west to eastIn Chapter 2. The research reported that different extraction method not only the different fennel volatile oil components but also the different of the same chemical composition content.Quantitative analysis only with simple operation, less time-consuming and no pollution SPME-GC method would have been able to finish of F. vulgare fruit volatile oil substances to judge. But the qualitative analysis should choose SDE method with more sample content and more extensive.In Chapter 3. With the SDE method to do qualitative analysis of volatile components, trans anethole, grass estragole, D limonene, fenchone (peak area> 100μg/g) and secondary a-component-pinene ene, juniper ene, cress ene,β-Basil ene, terpene terpinenes, camphor, carvone,4-methoxy radical benzaldehyde, piper cubeba oil terpene, celery brain and oleic acid ethyl (peak area>10μg/g) were determined to be mainly components. And it was found that the content of trans anethole was different in different regions of F. vulgare,of which the highest content of origin was Heilongjiang, Shanghai, followed was Inner Mongolia and Shandong.In Chapter 4. Using TLC to analyze fennel fruit from Gansu and Yunnan. After separation of Yunnan F. vulgare fruit,there was 149 chemical compositions with different 4. And there are 151 kinds of chemical composition of Gansu fennel four parts, three compositions were same. The results showed that kinds of chemical compositions were different obviously of four parts. All different parts obtained were assayed for their cytotoxic ability against HL-60, A-549, SMMC-7721, MCF-7, and SW480 human tumor cell lines.Among them, Yunnan fennel C, D, methanol showed the most significant cytotoxic inhibition against HL-60 and the good cytotoxic inhibition against A-549, SMMC-7721, MCF-7 and SW480. Gansu fennel A, B showed inhibition against HL-60.In Chapter 5. This review covers 40 literatures published to detail the chemical constituents analyses and pharmacological activities.
