Objective: The thesis conducts research and conclusion of the classic prescriptions for treating diabetes and its complications, and discusses in detail the therapeutic methods and prescription herbs in these prescriptions as well as the clinical application of these prescriptions by practitioners of later generations on the basis of the prescriptions wrote in Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of Golden Chamber with reference to a wide range of clinical reports, literatures, and famous ancient books, with an aim to provide enlightenment and assistance in treating diabetes and its complications with Traditional Chinese Medicine by modern medical practitioners.Methods: The research summarizes the academic thoughts of the famous medical practitioners Zhang Zhongjing et al on the etiology and pathogenesis, treatment based on syndrome differentiation together with complications of diabetes through careful review of relevant literature and ancient books; settle the prescriptions that are widely used in modern times according to the records in literature; elaborates the original texts that occur in Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of Golden Chamber one by one, the therapeutic methods and prescription herbs as well as the clinical application of these prescriptions by practitioners of later generations, and discourses the application experiences of modified prescriptions, compatibility of medicines and dosages by practitioners of later generations during clinical application.Results: The thesis selects the commonly used prescriptions from the classic prescriptions, such as White tiger Decoction with ginseng, Shenqi-pill, Zhenwu decoction, Gegen Qinlian decoction, Taohe Chengqi decoction, Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu decoction for in-depth research and analysis, the results of which show that these commonly seen prescriptions have good therapeutic effects on diabetes and its complications, and they are widely used in medical practice of later generations, with excellent effects.Conclusion: The classic prescriptions have excellent therapeutic effects on diabetes and its complications. When using these classic prescriptions, it is essential to grasp the pathogenesis on the basis of classic prescriptions, correlate the prescriptions with syndromes, join modern medical techniques scientifically, and reasonably match and adjust various diagnosis and treatment methods with classic prescriptions based on the real state of illness.
