Purpose: The study is to compare the acupoints selected for the treatment of KOA via acupuncture in domestic literature and SCI, then to find out the similarities and differences, providing the references of point selections for domestic and foreign scholars in their future clinical study. To some extent, it can promote the development of treatment for KOA and enhance the effectiveness.Material and method:Retrieved databases both at home and abroad, entered the corresponding search terms, researched the literature, and confirmed the adoption of literature according to the inclusion criteria and the exclusion criteria, then, Endnote X7 software was used to review the literature, and the repeated articles were deleted. After read the literature, clear up the acupoints and made a comparison such as the selection of acupoints, the frequency of acupoints as well as the meridians, found out the similarities and differences. Therapeutic points in domestic literature and foreign literature were compared. The domestic databases included China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang Database, the VIP Database and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database. The Chinese search terms were acupuncture, needle-knife, electroacupuncture, filiform needle, silver needle, knee osteoarthritis, knee pain, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, knee retrograde osteoarthritis and knee hypertrophic osteoarthritis. The Foreign Language Databases included Pub Med, Web of Science, EMBASE, Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, Medline, the search terms were acupuncture, electroacupuncture, needle-knife, silver needle, knee osteoarthritis, osteoarthritis, the language was English, the article type was clinical trial. According to the inclusion criteria, there were 696 Chinese articles among which 241 articles were excluded, and 316 repeated articles were deleted, 139 articles were adopted. According to inclusion criteria, there were 289 English articles among which 211 articles were excluded, and only 31 articles were adopted. The intervention in these adopted articles was simple acupuncture.Results: Similarities:1. In the aspect of selection of acupoints, i. There are 14 same same local points and 12 same distal points between domestic and foreign literature.ii. Point selection based on syndrome differentiation, the same major points are Neixiyan, Heing, Dubi and Yanglingquan.iii. Tender point, the same distribution area of tender points are lumbosacral portion, femoral region, knee and crural part.iv. Muscle trigger point, there are same area between domestic and foreign literature, they are located in sartorius, adductor and popliteus.v. Special points, A-shi points both in domestic and foreign literature were selected, and in extra-points, Neixiyan and Heding were selected.2. In the aspect of frequency, the same high-frequent acupoints are Dubi, Neixiyan,Yanglingquan, Xuehai, Liangqiu, Zusanli, Yinlingquan, among which Dubi is thehighest-frequent acupoint both at home and abroad.3. In the aspect of meridian, the same high-frequent meridians are stomach meridian of foot yang ming, spleen meridian of foot tai yin, gallbladder meridian of foot shao yang and extra meridian.Differences:1. in the aspect of selection of acupointsi. The distal points in foreign literature are more than that in domestic literature.ii. Point selection based on syndrome differentiation, in addition to the same major points, the adjunct points in Chinese therapy are specific points, while the adjunct points in foreign therapy are Five Shu Points.iii. Focal points, the focal points selected in domestic literature are the therapeutic points on Zu san yang muscle meridians and the Zu san yin muscle meridian, while, in foreign literature,it is lack of the study on muscle meridians.iv. Tender point, in general, the number of tender points in domestic literature are more than that in foreign literature.v. Muscle trigger point, the point in domestic literature are more comprehensively, while, in the foreign literature the number of muscle trigger point have been referred.vi. Special points, in domestic literature, there are different kinds of therapy theory, and the number of extra-meridian points in Chinese literature is more than that in foreign literature.2. In the aspect of frequency, Heding, Shenyu, Xiyangguan and Weizhong are also used frequently in Chinese literature, while, Sanyinjiao, Taixi and Kunlun are used more frequently in foreign literature, and The selections of acupoints in Chinese literature are more comprehensively.3. In the aspect of meridian, the proportion of bladder meridian of foot tai yang, large intestine meridian of hand yang ming, kidney meridian of foot shao yin and liver meridian of foot jue yin in foreign literature are higher than those in Chinese literature, the proportion of extra-meridian is higher than that in foreign literature, the smallest proportion in Chinese literature is small intestine meridian of hand tai yang, the smallest proportion meridian in foreign literature is heart meridian of hand shao yin and the lung meridian of hand tai yin and the heart meridian of hand shao yin are not selected in Chinese therapy, while, the triple energizer meridian of hand shao yang and the pericardium meridian of hand shao yin are not selected in foreign therapy.Conclusion: 1. In the aspect of acupoint selection, the selection of acupoints according to location of disease is the main therapy.2. The selection of acupoints in both of domestic literature and foreign literature are based on theory of traditional Chinese medicine.3. In the aspect of point selection based on syndrome differentiation, the syndrome types in domestic literature are more comprehensively.4. In the aspect of focal points, no relative study can be found in the foreign literature.5. In the aspect of tender points, the selection of tender points in domestic and foreign literature have the same distribution area, but the concrete position of the therapeutic points are different.6. In the aspect of muscle trigger points, in domestic literature, the muscle trigger points are selected according to pain site, while in foreign literature, the number of selected muscle trigger points are showed.7. In the aspect of special points, in domestic literature, there are some special therapies.
