The real-time character of embedded system and security of network-enabled embedded appliances (NEA) are facing great challenges due to the more and more comlex and network-enabled development of embedded system. According to these issues, the paper researched the real-time scheduling issue for complicated embedded systems, and the security issue for NEA.As to real-time character, the paper proposed an integrated task scheduling (ITS) scheme. According to the speciality of embedded application tasks, the tasks are claasified into 3 classifications: critical task, real-time task, and normal task. The core of ITS is founded on the tasks classification, and ITS uses different scheduling methods for different task classifications, and the scheduling methods can be justified flexibly with the transit of the system workloads. The merits of ITS include extensive applicability, strong real-time, and higher system capability. ITS can be applieated in future complex embedded system. For the security character, a universal secure printing scheme (USPS) is proposed, and it uses network printer as research object. The USPS provides solutions for the 2 potential dangers of NEA in security: invalid accesss and the attacks on data channel. USPS utilizes AES algorithm to encrypt and password plus account to authenticate. The AES algorithm is realized by FPGA. The USPS can solve the security issue of NEA in a certain extent. In the end, the paper decribed the implement of USPS and emulated the data decryption in the printer end of USPS.
