As key equipment in petrochemical industries, high temperature heating-furnaces dominate the whole production process. As a heating-furnace, the combustion requires steady and even flame in the fire box. The flame is the best indicator of burning state. The bad combustion state may induce some bad results such as decreasing thermal efficiency, increasing polluter, decreasing equipment life and so on. Hence it is of great significance to monitor the flame on real time. The traditional method to monitor the flame is direct observation by eyes, which is limited by time, place and the personal experiences, which changes from time to time. With the development of the digital image processing technology, it is now possible to monitor the flame by based systems. The real-time flame monitoring system involved optics, digital image processing technology, and computer technology. It is possible to monitor the flame by computer because of the developing of. The emerging of web technology makes it possible to monitor flame remotely. Based on the above consideration and using the J2EE technology, the thesis develops the real-time flame monitor system. The system collects the images through high temperature CCD camera and processes the images to obtain the flame parameters. The flame parameters are stored into the database. The flame information plateform issues the diagnosis results so that the internet users can share them. In chapter 1, the state-of-the-art of flame monitoring and remote fault diagnosis are summarized, the feasibility of proposed method is discussed. In chapter 2, related technology on the developing tools are introduced which include Digital image processing, Windows programming, Struts framework, Hibernate, Spring framework and so on. In chapter 3, the design and the programming techniques are studied. The image sampling and processing system and the plateform for flame diagnosis information issue are developed in the server end. In chapter4, the results of system running are presented. In final chapter, conclusions have been drawn from the research. Suggestions are made for further research. In the present thesis, J2EE was applied to the real-time flame monitor system for the first time. The practical application showed that the system monitored successfully the flame condition remotely.
