At present, people adopt a large amount of network authentication systems based on password or digital certificate. However, the weakness of these systems gives illegal users the chance to personate the legal user to login system, consequently cause the legal user lose their interest. Therefore, along with using Internet and electronic business farther and widely, more and more people recognize that they urgently need securer systems that can avoid just recognizing the password or digital certificate of user. This thesis aims to propose a securer network status authentication mechanism based on fingerprint identification. This mechanism makes use of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol and digital certificate to provide the secure network communication. At the same time, it adopts fingerprint identification technology to authenticate client user. As a result, this mechanism implements genuine-meaning personal status authentication. The handshake protocol of SSL provides client to recognize true status of server, avoiding communicating with personators. And the record protocol of SSL can encrypt all of data exchanged between client and server via the secure channel, ensuring the security of all data such as fingerprint image, the result of authentication, user id etc. By using fingerprint identification, this mechanism introduces the advantage of biometric identification that can identify a person, ensuring the status of client can be truly recognized by server.
