With the development of Internet and its application, while havingproduced plenty of data and data types also making data storage and the safetyof data become to be important. On the one hand, data storage must satisfy tothe direction of magnanimity data storage, network and shared data. With SANas representative new storage structure is being produced, and some researchworks based on SAN structure are also becoming the hot point in research.Onthe other hand, although data safe measure has been studying and applyingvigorously, having no surefire information safe preventive measure on theworld. Data backup all the same is the final and most safe means of protectingdata.Today,data types have various. Various application data can be dividedinto Mission Critical Data, Business Critical Data and Operationally ImportantData from the angle of business influence. Some daily applications of becommon can be clarify to this three types. This paper will also give the list ofclassification. When data is out of use the index point of data recovery isdifferent each other of this three types. RTO (Recovery Time Objective), RPO(Recovery Point Objective) and DLE (the scope of the Data Loss Event) is thedata recovery index point and is also the realistic reference of backup policy.This paper combining to these data types select for the policy of datastorage including what data will be backup, what time the backup will be done,what backup type will be adapted, and where the backup will be stored as wellas on-site storage or off-site storage, storage in local place or distance place,centralized backup or distributed backup and so on. Giving its solution and thecommon fault in backup countermeasure and having still emphasized documentas well as the importance that carries for backup of backup and backup monitor,pointing out must regular to carry out recovery capability inspection for backup.Only in doing this we can restore our data when suffering the disaster.SAN gets the welcome and become popular is because of the advantage ofone of series, such as its high performance, high expansibility and easymanagement, the reliability of data transmission, reducing network rate of flow,the far connection distance of fabric and so on. This paper has given thecompare of SAN and DAS, NAS in order to show the superiority performanceof SAN. Here, we also compare the Dedicated Point-to-Point Connection,Arbitrated Loop and SAN Switched Fabric, which are three topologies of SAN.Now SAN according to the difference of transmission protocol andtransmission medium have two popular methods, a kind of is to adopt FC-SAN,another is to adopt IP-SAN. In FC-SAN only with mould optical fabric, notwith the data transmission can support to be as long as 10 kilometers. IP-SANUsing IP network to carry out data transmission, can transmit data on WAN tomake the access of data not get the restriction of area again. This paper makesfor this to be concerned with. Backup large number of data will use backup software at last, this is anecessity. In the SAN, the backup structure and function and backup controldada flow of backup software will have some special characteristics withanother structure, especially the backup flow directions under common practicaltype structure LAN-Free and Server-Free of SAN, they are different. This paperis also concerned with this. Cluster technical and Virtual storage technologies in SAN structure willinevitably strengthen SAN. Cluster technology can make 24 X 7 withoutdisconnected become possibility. If having a server failure, the work on thisserver will automatically goes to other server. In doing this, systematicadaptability be guaranteed. Virtual storage is a kind of intermediatesystem .It is so intelligent to "leap"the physical connection andmanagement software. It lets customer storage data with the transparentand automatic way on disk or tape, shielding the physical details of storageequipment and offers unified concentration for user management. Virtualstorage can be divided into various type—the virtual based on storage , thevirtual based on main computer and the virtual based on SAN , no matter beingwhich kind its biggest characteristic is offering a kind of shield and makingoperation be more transparent and more simple to user .
