TOPIC: Study on Polymer Y Junction Splitter SPECIALITY: Microelectronics and Solid State Electronic AUTHOR: Wang Haitao SUPERVISED Prof. Zhang Darning At the end of 20th century, the computer communications developed rapidly. A great lot of networks were built, all based on the micro-electronics technique. Because of rapid increase of bandwidth and capacity requirements in fiber communication systems and networks, microelectronics technology tend towards the bottle-neck. Regarding the light signal as the information carrier in the information process system, the people would break though the limit. Then the market demand accelerates the development of integrated optics so that the integrated optics boosts the computer communications of today, improving the processing speed, the transmission speed, and memory capability. Along with the integrated optics coming into being, the research of splitter has excited. The fiber splitter and waveguide splitter has attracted more interest because they are capable of distributing the light signal power from one input waveguide into two or more output waveguides. Currently a great deal of applications are based on splitters, especially in the Wavelength Division Multiplexed System and CATV. So the splitter is attended even more at present because of its characteristics including the broad bandwidth, low loss and low cost, etc. The theories of splitter have been succeeded. At present the focus is the improvement of device performance and the expansion of application range. It make the people pay more attention on the polymer splitter and the wavelength Er-Yb doped amplifier: combiner/splitter. The polymer have a lot of advantages comparing with the conventional semiconductor material. Its dielectric constant is low, its cost is low and it is apt to become film, connect with optic fiber,...
