In 1964, American DuPont firstly succeeded in developing the Si-type plastic optical fiber, and commercialized it quickly. Thereafter, through more than 20 years' research, great success had been made in reducing the transmission loss of plastic optical fiber. In 1982, koike etc of Japanese Keio University firstly developed GI-type plastic fiber by the interface-gel method, having improved the transmission bandwidth of the plastic optical fiber, and effectively settled the bottleneck problem of information transmission.In this dissertation, through discussing the transmission loss, optical dispersion and bandwidth of plastic optical fiber in detail, we have analyzed the incomparable advantages of GI POF in bandwidth.There are two ways for the preparation of Gl-type plastic optical fiber: directly extruding and fiber-drawing from preform rod.The key technique of the latter method is the preparation of the preform rod, but we still have many problems with the technique of its preparation at home. In this subject, we have carried on research on its preparation by interface-gel method taking MMA as base-material, taking BB as the dopant of high refractive index. Through changing the contents of raw materials, temperature and pressure, we have analyzed the reasons for the existence of bubbles and vacuum bubbles and put forward a solution. Through regulating the content of chain transfer agent, we can control molecular weights of high polymer and its distribution width, and consequently control the glass-transformation temperature Tg, so that the perform rod possesses fine fiber-drawing performance and the fiber possesses higher strength. In addition, we have simulated the formation mechanism of the perform rod's refractive index, and measured it by the method of space wave-filtrating. Through analyzing the measured refractive index of samples with various contents of BB, we have drawn the conclusion that BB's influence on therefractive index only depends on its initial contents. After a large amount of research work, we have found the technique conditions and the best raw material matching for the preparation of perform rod almost without defect.
