Three subjects—"Advanced Orbiting System (AOS) Recommendation", "methods of ranging" and "the combination of data of ranging (or positioning) and AOS" are studied in the thesis. Chapter 2 introduces the background of AOS, CCSDS Principal Network, AOS services, the characteristics of AOS and the system of tracking that supports AOS Recommendation in detail. The usual methods of ranging are studied in Chapter 3. All kinds of suitable methods of ranging, the theory of these means and the optimal measure are pointed out here. Chapter 4 presents the theory of pseudo code ranging and how to determine the parameters of pseudo code, and discusses concretely the combination of pseudo code and AOS. Based on the analysis of existing method of pseudo code transmission, a fresh scheme for implementing pseudo code ranging is introduced, the feasibility is demonstrated in detail, realization frame is concretely designed, and possible problems arisen from this project are also elementarily analyzed and resolved. Chapter 5 points out the importance of the autonomous positioning of satellites, and introduces the mature autonomous positioning using GPS and the developing TDRSS onboard navigation system (TONS). A fresh scheme for transmitting of autonomous positioning data is proposed at last. In Chapter 6, the merits of distance measurement between satellites comparing distance measurement between satellite and the observation station on ground are indicated. Two sorts of currently attention-getting means of ranging between satellites are also analyzed.
