In this thesis, study on simulation of dynamic radar characteristic and recognition of missile target is investigated against the background of target recognition of missile defense system. Three facets, including characteristic and simulation of radar signature of missile target, missile target recognition based on the sequence of RCS-time, and missile target recognition based on one-dimensional range profile, are included. In chapter 1, beginning with the significance and challenge of missile defense in modern war, the great importance of simulation of dynamic radar characteristic and recognition of missile target is expounded. The future of the research on radar characteristic and recognition of missile target is summarized. The skeleton and main subjects of the thesis are also introduced. In chapter 2, after the radar cross characteristic and kinetic characteristic of missile target being described, the new approach to simulate radar signature of missile targets is proposed. With regard to the two keys of the approach, explanation and deduction are provided in detail. In the end, the amplitude of RCS of a spin stabilized RV under the given scene is simulated. In chapter 3, the dynamic information of the target in flight is applied in recognition experiment based on the sequence of RCS-time. With their expression and physical meaning, several feature parameters that can be extracted from the sequence of RCS-time are presented. Furthermore, the features are evaluated by separability criterion based on distance. The amplitude information of dynamic RCS of four targets is simulated. Finally, Classifier is designed for the recognition experiment and the performance of the Classifier is provided. In chapter 4, the dynamic one-dimensional range profiles of the targets in flight are applied to recognition experiment. The theory and characteristic of the range profile are explained, and moreover, some features of the range profile of missile target are presented. The method of matching range profiles is applied to recognize the targets. Lastly, the result and the analysis are given. In chapter 5, the thesis is summarized. The new point and the further work are pointed out.
