ATR performance evaluation is becoming one of the aspects of the ATR technology area. The performance evaluation methods of ATR algorithm are presented in this thesis, which is based on the key pre-research project of national defense named "ATR techniques in MMW HR profiles", for the preparing to build a practical evaluation and demo system of ATR algorithm.The significance and background of the research have been introdued in the introduction, so as the history and the situation of the evaluation field. The introduction also gives out the outline of the thesis.Chapter II reviews the ATR performance evaluation methology, summarizes some basic concepts, measures and methods of ATR algorithm evaluations, and gives personal comprehension and some discussion in addtion.The limitations of linear regression model are analyzed in Chapter III, considering the characters of the recognition results. Two performance measures, metric and evaluation method based on the logistic regression model are proposed in this chapter. The theoretical analysis and an evaluation application prove the utility of this kind of evaluation method.Chapter IV analyzes the statistical character of probility performance measures, especially the probility of correct classify. Two tipcal evaluation problems, whether an ATR algorithm reachs the requirement and it's robustness, are resolved by using the hypothesis testing, using u testing and analysis of variance. How to evaluate an algorithm under multi-conditions is discussed at the end of the chapter.The last chapter summarizes all the research work of the thesis, draws the conclusions and gives some recommendations for further research.
