With the setting-up of the information superhighway, the popularization of INTERNET, the rapid development of multimedia and network technology, the human society has already entered an information-based society. Restricted by time and space, the limitation of the traditional teaching mode becomes more and more outstanding. The traditional mode of teaching in classroom can't satisfy the requirements of teaching, the online education combined with the computer and multimedia technology has already become an education skill of new generation because of its remote real-time interactive function. And WWW is widely accepted for its abundant hypertext, unified user platform and apt to use. As a kind of brand-new education form, the WEB-based online tutoring system comes into appear.In this project, I have studied the computer assisted instruction system on the basis of WEB directing against the deficiency of traditional CAI. It offers a kind of flexible, open, high-efficient new teaching mode for teaching in information age. This paper mainly carries on research and discussion around the implementation of the function in this system and the system key technology and method involved. The main research contents are: data transmission technology by network, security and protection technology in system, the intelligent technology of organizing the test paper and the technology of grading automatically.The system adopts three-level structure model on the basis of WEB, according to the method of module. The system is composed of nine modules: log-in controlling, selecting lessons on the net, system management, the courseware requesting, job management, information inquiry, online examination hall, chat room, guest book, choosing ASP programming language environment that is object-oriented and easy to expand and ACCESS database to implement the above functions. This thesis shows especial research on the key technology of the WEB-based online tutoring system, the table structure in the database and some algorithms involved. This paper puts forward a method for obtaining high quality INTERNET data transmission based on ATM network, proposes a kind of method for grading subjective question, introduces an algorithm for organizing the test paper using genetic algorithm on the basis of the integer coding, provides a method for preventing the illegal user from copying and using this system. The design of the online examination hall makes the paperless examination become possible, and has actually realized the education thought of separating testing from teaching. The realization of grading automatically has lightened the teacher's work. The design of chat room and guest book has met the needs for synchronous or asynchronous exchange among the teacher and student, student and student.This system can offer a rich and colorful interactive man-machine interface with excellent pictures and texts to learner, and the extensive knowledge base and information storehouse, which can excite the learner's study interest. Thus, it can reach the ideal goal, which lets the learner voluntarily construct, obtain, renew even innovate knowledge by oneself. The realization of dynamic interaction makes it possible to launch multimedia teaching vividly, with abundant content.
