With the rapid growth of XML as the standard for information exchange, the XML data is exponential increasing. To deal with these XML data, people begin to design various schemes on the RDBMS and other traditional Databases. With the increase of semistructure XML data, people found that only storage XML data based on RDBMS could not keep the structure of the XML data. The Native XML Database is a database specially designed for managing the structure and semistructure XML data. It has a rapid development in the last years. To fit the requirements of vary system, people need to know more details about Native XML Database and it's evaluation by the results of testing.In this thesis, the technique of XML, the implement and define of benchmark have been presented. The characteristic and storage structure of Native XML Database have been studyed. We bring out a scheme of testing on the Native XML Database's performance. Adopting a better test scheme and appraising model will result in a good database design, so it's a significant work to test the Native XML Database. The XMatch-1 has been present in the paper for it's shortcoming in emphasize the easy way for test, it only use eight query and three update operation to examine the performance of the database. The scheme brought forward in this paper put out more extensive testing point based on the XMatch-1.On the aspect of testing, the scheme test the performance of Native XML Database between two storage structures of Text-based and Model-based, which based on the characteristic that Native XML Database deal with semistructure data.Depend on the scheme designed in this paper , tests on the two different kinds of storage structure Native XML Database have been done, the document generation have been presented, and the experiment results on the document loading ,space using, query speed and educe the performance appraisement have been analysed. In the end of the paper a conclusion of the advantage and disadvantage of the storage performance and the development trend in the future of Native XML Database have been given.
