Currently, the auto-control technology develops quickly, it has widely pervaded every aspect of manufacture and people's lives. In practical application, to be a good control device, not only high speed, anti-interference ability and cost control are highly demanded, universality and facility are also very important.Being a main type of fieldbus, CAN (Controller Area Network) has a wide applicable outlook. But now, the traditional interface technology(such as RS-232, RS-485, ISA) is still generally used to connect CAN adapter and computer, CAN lacks the high-speed and convenient interface to host. USB technique supports PnP. Because of its high-speed, flexibility and convenience, it can be considered to design the better interface of CAN device, which will greatly improve the application environment of CAN.At the beginning of this thesis, the main points of USB protocol and CAN protocol are briefly introduced. According to their characteristics and practical demands, MCU AT89C52, USB controller PDIUSBD12 and stand-alone CAN controller SJA1000 are choosed to design the USB-CAN system. Then, an USB interface of CAN adapter is given, also a realizable scheme of USB-CAN communication system is provided. After that, the paper demonstrates the details of hardware design and software design of the system. At the end, the debugging environment and debugging process are fully introduced, then the paper concludes the operation status of the system. The system can fulfill the process of data transforming and transferring between USB and CAN. Combining with two hosts on each side, it can realize the data communication of two nodes. Comparing with the designs based on traditional interfaces, it is more convenient and its speed is higher.Currently, the combination of USB and CAN hasn't been widely studied and used. Because CAN devices have increasing demands of interface speed and universality, and USB will ultimately take place of other interfaces, this research has very broad prospect.
