Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) is an importantcomponent of modern manufacturing technology. With the progressive developmentof science and technology in the world, the traditional designing and producingmethods must be thoroughly reformed by application and population of CAD/CAMand other related technologies, which improves the productivity and creates greatertechnologic and economic benefit. The numerical control (NC) machining simulationis the key technology of CAD/CAM. On the basis of the NC machining simulationsystem of WebMill researched and developed by Research Center of CAD/CAMEngineering of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the interferenceand collision detection, together with NC verification, in the process of NCmachining simulation are further investigated in the paper, and furthermore thecorresponding software is developed as well. The main research work andachievements are as following:1. In participating in the course of development of the NC machining simulation system of WebMill, according to the function demand for this system, the milling tool library module of the WebMill system has been developed and the functions of management of the cutter have been realized as well.2. On the basis of studying the interference and collision detection of the three-dimensional space object, a real-time algorithm is proposed to rapidly judge the interference and collision between NC machining tools or handle of tools with clamps by determining whether the sweep volume of tools has intersected with the discrete lines of clamps in the process of NC machining.3. With the foundation of analytically studying various kinds of NC verification methods within domestically and internationally corresponding fields, a new Normal error calculating algorithm is proposed based on triangle mesh combining the characteristic of NC machining simulation system of WebMill. At the same time,this paper, linking with the instance of machining, adopts the Cloud-Atlas and Error-File output methods to output the NC verification result, consequently illuminating the dependability of the algorithm with the actually measured resultcompared.4. The machining error is affected by many factors, such as cutting force, cutting heat, cutter wear, alignment error and machining tool error in the process of NC machining. By analyzing the above influence mechanism, this paper has carried on primarily researching and discussing in the error model of NC machining, which takes theoretical preparation for the technology of NC physical simulation and the research work of corresponding software developed by Research Center of CAD/CAM Engineering of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
