Information processing technology involved in water supply industry is a remarkable character in the developing of waterworks. The key technique is how to control the adding quality of flocculating agent in the waterworks automation.This paper analyzes the auto-flocculating agent adding system in water supply all over the world. Aiming at the shortage, a new auto-flocculating agent adding system based on digital image processing technique is designed. The system checks the feature of flocculating agent absolutely based on digital image processing and controls quality of flocculation.The paper explains the whole structure, working processing and the realization of hardware and software, based on the research of flocculating agent feature. A adaptive robust median filtering is designed according to the shortage of image filter. The disturbance restriction ability of the system is greatly improved. Segment is improved the traditional adaptive threshold segmentation, and pattern recognition and statistical by region growing segmentation. The result shows, through the system we designed, the change of flocculating feature is recognized immediately and we can control the adding quality of flocculation. It can lower the cost and improve the automatization level of waterworks.
