| Transparent gateway is such a network device that client computer can visit Internet through it without changing its own network IP configuration. It means that transparent gateway provides a plus-and-play service.Without changing IP configuration,the client PC will not match the gateway in IP configuration and the client PC will not send packets to gateway. Using DHCP service and modified ARP can solve this problem. Then, NAT can transfer the client PC packets. Improved DHCP service can avoid the confliction because of the difference of the client PC IP configuration. In order to provide transparent DNS service and to deal with some special packets, traditional NAT is improved. VLAN is used to tackle with the confliction of the IP address.In Windows 2000 operation system, the transparent gateway has been developed. There is a design of a efficient NAT table.In order to solve the problem of network bottleneck, the transparent gateway is extended. The design makes several transparent gateways work together and illustrates a simple policy of load balance and fail over.
