Research And Development Of Reverse Engineering CAD System

Reverse engineering is one of hot spots in CAD area. Since reverse engineering technology can process and model huge amount of measured data that cannot be treated efficiently in commercially available common CAD systems, more and more CAD vendors and users are paying attentions to it. We study the technology about reverse engineering CAD in this thesis, include the reading, storing, displaying of the huge amount of point cloud, extracting special lines from the mesh, sharpening of the mesh.The main idea of this thesis is:We study the technology of the storing of the huge amount of point cloud. We also advance a new reading algorithm that can read data step by step and reduce at the same time. The algorithm can be controlled easily and it can read according the hardware of the PC. So the algorithm will not be limited by the PC and can run on the PC that has not enough memory.We study the extracting special lines from the mesh and sharpening of the mesh. Because the surface that come from mesh directly is not so beautiful, we advance a new idea, that is we analyze the mesh and extract the special lines before the next operations. Then we construct the surface according the special lines. Also, we advance a new algorithm of mesh sharpening. The algorithm wipes off the useless message of the models and the extracting special lines from the mesh will be easier.
