Laser communication in atmosphere has been paid much attention by many countries because of its wide bandwidth high data rate, good secrecy and lower power consumption, it has been developing rapidly in recent years. However, laser communication in atmosphere is much more difficult than millimeter wave communication because of the complex space environment, the limited width of laser beam and the long communication distance. So it is necessary to build an ATP (Acquisition, Pointing and Tracking) subsystem to prevent the loss of communication signal from the failure of links. From the overview of the development of optical communication in the last two decades, we can see that ATP technology is not only the most important but also the most difficult to resolve, so ATP technology is the precondition of reliable communication. Thus it is necessary to study the problem about ATP in theory and practice to find a better ATP technology adaptive to optical communication.The main contributions of author's work are as follows:(1) Reviewed the purpose of carrying out optical communication research and the result that many countries and enterprises gained. And introduced the significance and the necessity of optical communication;(2) Then the main structure, integral parts and detailed work process of optical communication are narrated, especially, the key technologies are discussed;(3) Thirdly, the model of optical communication ATP subsystem is built and analyzed in atmosphere;(4) Discussed the fine tracking control technology in detail and applied it to the model of ATP, and obtained the simulated data;(5) Further, according to the simulated analysis of the PSD facular characteristics, we put forward an auto beam acquiring system that is applicable to laser communication in atmosphere, and then analyses its theory in detail.(6) Lastly, pointing to the analysis of ATP subsystem, we applied TMS320LF2407ADSP to ATP subsystem. The ATP subsystem mainly composed of the DSP chip actualized the miniaturization and the integration, and provided a worthful reference for the following research.
