From the appearance of the name of Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) to the realization of the product, there have been much great progress and development on PCF. Other than a research focus, PCF has become a new research field. As an optical waveguide, PCF's unique structure differs itself from other optical waveguides. The proponents of PCF had alleged that PCF would have characteristics such as low-loss, low-dispersion and high power capacity. Now, researches have revealed that PCF also have much more traits that promise PCF would be applied in a more wide range.This paper just focuses on the PCF, and pays much attention to the theoretic analysis of PCF. Beginning with existing commonly used methods in calculating waveguide, by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of these methods, this research chose the simple and convenient method of Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method to calculate the properties of PCF. After inducing a set of FDTD equations, a set of software to calculate the propagation properties of PCF was programmed. An example is given, and its propagation properties are obtained.Some experiments are also combined in this paper. With facilities in the lab, a flat to perform PCF experiments was set up. The mode distribution of PCF was observed and the endless-single-mode trait was proved. By comparing the experiment phenomena with the theoretic calculation results, the theoretic analysis method and software are proved to be right and effective. What's more, by the means of collecting and classifying related research developments in the field of PCF application till now, the research status quo was summarized, which will be useful for future research in PCF application.In the end, this program was used to calculate the THz wave's propagation in a structure similar with the photonic crystal fiber. It proved this method is effective and promising in the design and fabrication of THz waveguide.
