The study on the diode laser arrays (LDA) pumped solid-state laser (DPSSL) has been an important research field because of its compact configuration, high pumping efficiency and convenient maintenance. In this paper, a constant-current power supply for DPSSL and LDA side-pumped Nd3+:YAG resonator, which can be used into continuous running laser marking system, has been investigated ,including the following aspects:1. The main circuit of the large-current CW power supply for LDA has been developed. This circuit is mainly composed of two high-power MOSFETs, an op-amplifier and a precision detecting resistor, and is in negative feedback configuration. A bi-integral A/D converter is used to convert the analog voltage signal into the digital signal and to drive LED to display the current value. 2. Factors affecting the operation of the DPSSL system have been studied. On the basis of the single-chip micro-controller, press buttons and sensors, the controlling switch circuit, auto-protecting circuit and alarming circuit are designed. 3. The driving and controlling program of the DPSSL system has been compiled in MCS-51 assembler language. 4. The thermal effect of the LDA side-pumped Nd3+:YAG rod has been analyzed, and the estimation of the focal length of the thermal lens has been given when Nd3+:YAG rod is stably pumped. 5. The ABCD matrix of an active resonator has been deduced, and the conditions of the stable resonator and the thermal-insensitive laser output mode have been discussed.6. The dimension of the DPSSL resonator has been drawn, and the laser modes have been calculated with a numerical matrix method based on finite element method (FEM).
