With the development of Miniaturization technology of hard disk drive (HDD), Small-scale hard disk drive have been widely used in the portable computer and military computer, the most important request for those HDD is to have fine performance of resisting the abominable environment, especially good anti-vibration performance. In this thesis, the reasons and the general forms of Read/Write failure of HDD under vibration circumstance are studied by means of theoretically analysis combined with experiments, thus the vibration frequency and amplitude leading to operation failure are found. Moreover, we carried out Optimization design of vibration isolator for HDD, the efficiency is greatly improved by using CAD/CAE .Firstly, the structure and operation principle of the HDD are analyzed, and obtained general forms and reasons of HDD's operation failure under vibration circumstance.Secondly, the HDD's 3-D model is built using Pro/E software,then the model was imported into ANSYS and was meshed, therefore, the finite element model was built.Thirdly, the mode of HDD and its suspension are calculated using ANSYS, the natural frequency and modal vibration shape are obtained in the form of animation. Simultaneously, the sine sweep vibration tests are carried out to measure the vibration frequencies and amplitude which lead to operation failure of HDD. The result of experiments and calculation fit quite well.Fourthly, the principle , method , and step of FEA based on accurate dynamic are discussed. HDD's suspension working in a complicated dynamic circumstance is Simulated and analyzed as a flexible body using ANSYS combined with ADAMS. Finally, virtual vibrostand is built to test typical vibration isolator in order to choose best isolating scheme. The results of physical vibration test proved that: simulation by FEM play a very important role in the design of vibration isolator, which shorten the development period, reduce development expense and raise efficiency of design.
