The Research On Image Content Description Tool Based On MPEG-7 Frame

With the rapid development of the computer, network and communication technologies, the amount and types of information are booming over the Internet day by day. It is a very important subject how to get the required information from one huge multimedia information library. This subject has attracted many researchers around the world. In the subject, one of the key problems is the standardized description of the multimedia information. MPEG-7 standards are proposed to provide the structural and semantic description mechanisms for multimedia information. However, the MPEG-7 specifications only specify the syntax and semantics for describing multimedia contents. How to describe multimedia content and get the description data is outside the standardization. Aiming at the image media in this paper, we provide a description scheme of the hierarchical contents based on the MPEG-7 frames. Furthermore, we design and implement a interactive image description tool based on the MPEG-7 frames.This paper firstly expounds the image properties and the general hierarchical content models of images. Then it sums up the scopes of the MPEG-7, the description principles, the description tools and the models and methods of structural content description and semantic content description.Having analyzed the general hierarchical content models of image and MPEG-7 MDS multimedia description scheme, this paper sets up a specific based-on image content hierarchical description scheme. The description scheme divides the image information into metadata, visual feature and semantic feature and represents it by the XML norm in W3C. This description scheme has the comprehensiveness of description and wide adaptability, extensibility and easiness to apply. Then this paper systematically studies the specific description at different levels in the description scheme and the specific implication and implementation of all descriptors.At last this paper precisely design and implement an interaction image hierarchical description tool based on this description scheme. This description tool not only can automatically extract image metadata and describe the semantic feature of the image by man-machine interaction, but also extract all the descriptor of the visual feature and produce the XML file which is MPEG-7 compliant. Then this paper introduces the appliance of the description tool in military image library. And by a group of typical examples it introduces the function and the actual effect of the description tool.
