Flow control is a way to make the network data transmission rate match with its capacity by controling the traffic. Much attention is focused on the connectivity in early network for there is no competition for the resources. With the expansion of the network scale ,the need of the quickly increasing application for the resources has overtoped the network capacity.Then effective traffic control is desired to prevent the collapse of the network.The newly arisen IP Qos problem also need the support of effective flow control. Flow control not only can avoid the network congestion,and support the Qos through improving dropping rate,end to end delay and throughput,but also can achieve differentiated service through exposing different flow control mechanism on diferent traffic.The paper addresses the improvement of the existing flow control algorithm through the deep-research into the flow control mechanism based on network processor.A new algorithm is proposed which is an extension of current algorithm.The comparison and analysis of different algorithm through simulation show the efficience of E-SARED.We proposed a network based flow control method for differentiated service, which introduces the concept pf pipe to manage bandwidth allocation more efficiently.The software implementation technology of flow control is studied based on network processor.Two parts of flow control related software are implemented in network processor based router ,which are traffic engineer and MPLS protocol.
