There is increasing interest in liquid crystal materials because of theirfluidity of liquid as well as the optically anisot ropic of crystal. On one hand , themobility of the material can be increased dramatically if the liquid2crystal groupsare induced into the carrier t ransport materials. On the other hand , the polarizedluminescence can be realized when the optically anisot ropic of liquid crystal iscombined with light-emitting materials. 8-hydroxylquinoline aluminium(Alq3) is one of the best electroluminescentmaterials with good gilm-formation and thermal, excellent electron-transportingability. But Alq3 was used in ELD by vacum evaporation mostly, because of itspoor dissolubility, and easily recrystallized from the ELD so that the ELD'sstability decreased. To overcome the defects of Alq3, a series of8-hydroxylquinoline derivatives metal complex have been designed andsynthesized. Their structure Their photoluminescence(PL) and electro-luminescence (EL) properties have been investigated and the relationshipsbetween molecular strutures and light-emitting properties have been studied aswell.
