With the rapid development of the world mobile communication service, how to eliminate interferences better becomes the essential factors considered when we improve the system performance of wireless mobile communication. Smart antennas use the digital signal processing technologies to produce spatial and directional beam, then let the antenna's major lobe point to the coming direction of reference user and the side lobe point to the coming direction of interference user. Smart antennas can reduce the cochannel interferences (CCI) , enhance the user capacity and spectrum efficiency, reduces the transmit power and electromagnetic interferences, enhance the transmit efficiency, dynamically divide cells in 3G. Compared with other interference elimination technologies in mobile communication, the application of smart antenna shows tremendous potential.This paper introduces the study and practice in the fields of 3G,digital signal processing and computer program during the period of my working at master thesis. The theory and beamforming algorithms of smart antenna are presented, moreover, the realization of smart antenna based on software radio architecture is discussed. Firstly the paper introduces the background and trends of the research of smart antenna technology, secondly discusses the base theory , the base concept and correlative knowledge of the technology. Then, the paper pays attention to the problem of smart antenna beamforming. A novel LS-CMA algorithm is researched form the above work. This algorithm is based on constant modulus algorithm. The computer simulation results indicate this algorithm have several advantages such as fast convergence, robustness and so on. Moreover, the anthor analyzes several beamforming algorithms for CDMA system, in order to make preparation for 3G. Finally, a whole framework and design of smart antenna based on object-oriented software radio architecture to wireless system engineering is presented.
