The stability analysis and systematic design of fuzzy systems have been the most important issues for fuzzy control systems due to the special description and the natural nonlinearity of fuzzy systems. After reviewing the recent results on fuzzy control theory, this paper studies the methods to analyze stability and design controller for the T-S fuzzy systems. The main contents are as follows:1. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, this paper studies the stability analysis and systematic design of T-S fuzzy systems with uncertainties, and the proposed methods are transformed to equivalent LMI convex optimization problem, which can be numerically solved.2. The design problems guaranteeing both disc pole placement and steady state covariance constraints for T-S fuzzy systems with uncertainties and some external noises are studied via LMI methods, and the same design approaches are extended to steady output covariance constraints and the discrete case.3. The digital redesign problems of T-S fuzzy systems are studied. Three intelligence digital redesign methods are proposed for different requirements such as simplicity, stability and optimum. The design examples show that the each method has unique strongpoint and can be chosen according to practical conditions.4. The fuzzy-chaos hybrid control method is studied for the chaotic systems or the nonlinear systems that can be transformed to chaotic systems. This method has two control strategies and can realize energy-saving control by using the nature of chaotic systems, and guarantees stability of the chaos systems simultaneously.Research on stability analysis and systematic design of fuzzy control systems is still at its beginning stage, and this paper explores some problems involved in fuzzy systems robust stability and fuzzy controller design, but many problems are still open and deserve future efforts. Even so, the research which will contribute and enrich themodern intelligent control theory--one of the core technique of automatic controlfield in the 21th century.
