Research Of Fiber Interleaver Based On The Mach-Zehnder Interferometer

As the key component of multiplexer/demultiplexer, optical filter technology has been fueling great interest with the emergence of wide range tunable laser source, all-wave fiber, and wide band optical amplifiers, which is promoting DWDM to a leading edge of optical fiber communication. With the increasing of the number of channels and the decreasing of the wavelength spacing between channels, the traditional filter technologies become too difficult and costly to implement. However, the appearance of interleaver makes it possible for the traditional filters to perform their functions in the new applications. In this paper, the all optical fiber interleaver technology based on Mach- Zehnder interferometer is studied experimentally and theoretically.At first, the theory and structure of simply all optical fiber Mach- Zehnder interferometer is introduced. And the transmission property, chromatic despersion, isolation and fabricate techniques are analyzed in detail. In experiment, excess fraction method was introduced into the measurement of the optical path difference.To improve the transmission property, a all optical fiber fourier flat-top interleaver is studied. This kind of interleaver has flat pass band, broad cut band, high stability, and high isolation. Trapezium wave was utilized to optimize parameters of the kind of interleaver. This kind of interleaver is also studied experimentally.Then the all opical fiber reflected Mach-Zehnder interferometric interleaver, Mach-Zehnder interferometric interleaver with fiber loop, Mach-Zehnder interferometric interleaver with sampled fiber gratings are studied in the relation of parameters and transmission property.In the last part, the stability of all optical fiber interleaver based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer is analyzed in temperature, stress and retortion etc.
