Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a new type of radar system developed since 1950's. It breaks through the resolution limitation imposed by real aperture. With pulse compression technology, two-dimensional high resolution to distant targets can be realized. This thesis mainly studies one of spotlight imaging algorithms named Frequency Scaling Algorithm, and compares this algorithm with Range Migration Algorithm.In chapter one of this thesis, we briefly review the history of SAR, explain some important concepts about SAR, and present operation modes of SAR.Chapter two states the basic principle of SAR, and explains some important points of spotlight SAR.Chapter three thoroughly analyzes the imaging principle of Frequency Scaling Algorithm, and deduces some crucial results. Through the point simulation, we analyze its merit and demerit. Finally we apply Frequency Scaling Algorithm to the imaging of stripmap SAR raw data.Chapter four briefly researches the principle of Range Migration Algorithm. The relation and difference between Frequency Scaling Algorithm and Range Migration Algorithm are studied carefully. Through the point simulation under Ultra Wide-Band system parameters, we compare their imaging performances.
