This thesis analysises and discusses the GTP protocol and the inspect system of Gn interface. Because of the same interface protocol, the opinions and methods also suit for the inspect of Gp interface. The impressive growth of cellular mobile telephony as well as the number of Internet users promises an exciting potential for a market that combines both innovations: cellular wireless data services. Within the next few years, there will be an extensive demand for wireless data services. The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a new bearer service for GSM that greatly improves and simplifies wireless access to packet data networks, e.g., to the Internet. It applies a packet radio principle to transfer user data packets in an efficient way between mobile stations and external packet data networks. With the development of GPRS architectures, more and more attentions will be pay on the performance of the networks. In particular, users will request high-performance wireless Internet access. It is significant to explore network data from signals between GPRS interfaces to enhance the performance of GPRS network. In order to integrate GPRS into the existing GSM architecture, a new class of network nodes, called GPRS support nodes (GSN), has been introduced. GSNs are responsible for the delivery and routing of data packets between the mobile stations and the external packet data networks. All GSNs are connected via an IP-based GPRS backbone network. Within this backbone, the GSNs encapsulate the PDN packets and transmit (tunnel) them using the GPRS Tunneling Protocol GTP. The interface between GSNs is called Gn/Gp interface. The article discusses the GTP and Gn interface monitor system, the points of view is also the same with Gp interface monitoring.Firstly, the author describes the GPRS network architecture, its main network entities, and the interfaces, protocols. The UMTS architecture is simply explained in this part. Secondly, the article gives a detail discussion to GTP protocol and each important communication process between GSNs. And thirdly, it discusses the monitor system architecture of Gn interface between GSNs, and explains the offered statistic items of Gn interface monitor system base on the characteristics of GTP protocol. Finally, a detail design of signal collecting and processing module is shown.
