cdma2000 is a standard for the third generation mobile communication systems, supporting both voice and data services. While maintaining complete backward compatibility with IS-95 systems, cdma2000 will provide a number of service enhancements. This paper analyzes the reverse link of cdma2000 system. It describes the physical layer and tries to reconcile the simulation result with theoretical predictions based on 3GPP2 standard and Cadence SPW software system.Power control is applied to cdma2000 in order to overcome "near-far effect". As for the power control process of reverse link, the transmitted power of a mobile station must be controlled to guarantee enough SIR received at the base station. In this way, the system can maintain good quality while minimizing the potential of interference to other users' signals. This paper investigates the performance of closed loop power control by using adaptive variable-step strategy. In this algorithm, different power control group has different power control step, so that the closed loop power control can track the channel change timely. What's more, this paper provides a FER-based outer loop power control algorithm by using fuzzy control strategy. It can not only offer less outage probability, but also keep the transmitted power in a reasonable range. The proposed algorithms are simulated and tested in the SPW software platform. Finally, this paper explores the use of SPW and its corresponding libraries for communication systems. The SPW MATLAB interface is also studied.
