Special database, which is based on special region, special industry and special subject, always serves for special field. Because of its specialty and comprehensiveness, special database is welcome especially to professional researcher. With the development of the material science, the mount of the document about the material field increases rapidly. The construction of the material special database is desperately necessary.This article introduces a light alloy special database system for researchers in light alloy field. All the information about light alloys can be obtained, including documents, products information, standards information, enterprises information, study news. And E-business about product selling is also included into the system. The users of the system include ordinary user and enterprise user. The ordinary user can search for information and order products. The enterprise user can search for information and sell products.The system includes four functional modules. They are database searching module, enterprise management module, database appending module and database maintenance module. The database searching module includes six functional modules. They are document database searching, standard database searching, enterprise database searching, news database searching, expert database searching and product database searching. Enterprise product management module includes three functional modules. They are product adding, product modifying, orders collecting. Database appending module includes six functional modules. They are document database appending, standard database appending, enterprise database appending, news database appending, expert database appending and product database appending. Database maintenance module includes nine functional modules. They are document database maintenance, standard database maintenance, enterprise database maintenance, news database maintenance, expert database maintenance, product database maintenance, user management, fee management and forum management. Besides these, the system has other functions, such as logging in, registration, user data modification and password hint.Adopting the .NET technology the system is developed. The DBMS is SQL Server 2000 of Microsoft.The work of this article focuses on database design, searching strategy and security solution. Database design is the emphasis of the system implement. The regular design method is adopted which is based on the logical database design and physical database design. The regular proceedings are done with the database tables which conform to the third norm. To decrease the network flux and searching response time, many store procedures are used. The searching strategy increases the searching velocity and decreases the response time. Security solution includes validating users, page authorization, reading and writing database using the password and manipulating database using store procedures.The test version of the system has been published attached to the library of Chongqing University in the form of the website. The result of the test is good.
