The globe wireless communication markets have developed rapidly during recent years. Not limited in mobile telephony service, the integrated services as data communication and multimedia communication has become a growing trend and R&D hot spot. The telecommunication developers and manufactures now focus on the research of the key techniques for 3 generation (3G) and post 3G wireless communication systems and the development of 3G wireless communication equipment. In practical system engineering, the service provider are still using there 2G system, they are now trying to perfect their 2G system while employ the new technology what we called 2.5G system to ensure a smooth transfer to 3G systems in the near future.CDMA wireless communication system combines the new wireless technologies as power control, PN code sequence, RAKE receiver, soft switch and better voice encode scheme. The RF engineering of CDMA ensures a more efficient usage of spectrum resource while eliminate the mutual interference between different wireless systems. CDMA Ix belongs to 2.5G wireless communication systems which provide broadband wireless data service, it offers the high-speed packet switch scheme to serve as an high-speed access network, and provide the possibility to combine the new growing service requirement as Internet access service and multimedia network service. As an open platform, it allowed upgrade from previous IS-95A system by renew some software and add new hardware board, it also ensures a smooth transfer to the future 3G systems.In this article, the author make a detailed survey on the wireless communication market development, and analysis the two main orientations of wireless communication technology: to provide more user capability in an given spectrumrange and to carry more variety of telecommunication service. The author use the China Unicom Chengdu Corporation's practical engineering on upgrading the IS-95 CDMA systems to as a technical background example and introduce the specification and system architecture of a practical example of IS-95 CDMA system and CDMA Ix systems transfer. Next, the author illustrates the two main method to upgrade a CDMA system: overlay system and integrated system. Then the author analyses the practical engineering and statistics of China Unicom Chengdu Corporation, as an natural result, gives the plan of China Unicom Chengdu Corporation's CDMA Ix construction plan. Based on previous IS-95 A network and upgrade budget and time limit, according to the CDMA Ix technical stander, the author chooses the equipment for China Unicom Chengdu Corporation's CDMA Ix network and designs its architecture, using the AirPro software from Lucent to make analysis on the high resolution digital maps to design to RF subsystem and fit in the wireless envoirment. The system design makes full use of current system and avoid the resource waste, and it fill up the shortages of previous IS-95A system. The new system performance well on the coordination of IS-95A CDMA system while provides the open platform to extent to the future 3G systems.
