With the rapid development of Internet, more and more web applications have been developed. At the same time, the demands of information share and exchange have increase sharply. Among the current web applications there are lots of and different formats of complex data, so how to exchange data among different web applications has become an important issue, the core of which is data transformation, and some of them relate to the problem of semantics. But the current technique can only accomplish the transformation based on syntax, not semantics, thus they do not solve the problem of semantics.After analyzing the current data transformation technique, using information extraction technique, The method of data transformation based on semantics is provided. Taking example for the word document, we adopt the two strategies of template and learning to accomplish the process of transformation. The processed word documents are automatically converted into XML documents and relational data at the same time for the sake of efficient query. Word document has only edit and display information, no semantics information. The produced XML has accurate semantics information, thus transformation based on semantics is achieved. The method supports WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) and can easily be used by users. Furthermore, domain knowledge database and document database are introduced in our method. Through the friendly GUI and classified domain, users can carry out accurate queries based on semantics in the document database, query and manage lots of documents semantically, thus work efficiency are improved largely.
