With the constant extension in applications of computer, the object-oriented and active performance is more notable, and the traditional database management system (DBMS) already can' t meet the needs of many modern applications. To meet the needs, an active and object-oriented database management system (AOODBMS) is designed in this thesis. Several aspects are introduced as follows.Firstly, the background, the meaning, the history and the status quo of the research in AOODBMS are introduced.Secondly, to put forward the algorithm of rule termination analysis as the focal point, the following work has done. Enriching and extending the existed DBMS model, a new AOODBMS model is given. This Systematic frame makes function more thinning, and pays more attention to the connection between modules, connection between module and application programs and connection between module and underlying database. Integrated the 00 specialty, the definitions of event and rule, and the methods to manage them are given. It saves the spending of the redundant information and increases the running efficiency. An algorithm of rule termination analysis is given. This algorithm considers the influence of composite events and conditions and breaks through many limitation of traditional algorithm. It can be said that it improves the veracity of rule termination analysis. Also, the similarity between AOODBMS and workflow is considered, AOODBMS is applied to the workflow detection. One mapping method from the workflow to the AOODBMS is given, and some examples are given to introduce it.Finally, this thesis makes a conclusion of the work done.
