ITS (Intelligent Transport system) is a huge complex opening system in an emerging interdisciplinary research area. In ITS, advanced information processing, communications, auto-control and computer engineering are synthetically applied in a whole transport management system to establish a precise and high efficient real time system. One important aspect in ITS is the vehicle navigation system which is found on global position system, geographic information system, database search system and GSM system. In recent years, it has become important in the field of vehicle navigation system how to integrate GPS technology with decd reckoning system and map-matching system.At first, this paper introduced research and using status of vehicle navigation system in national and oversea. It has compared all kinds of advantages and disadvantages about navigation systems. Then a primary plan was developed and demonstrated. In allusion to the lower cost and little solidity for vehicle installed devices, the dominant design project for this system was brought forward and has been done argumentation.Secondly, this paper introduced the constitute frame and realized design on the system. The position system has used to give first place to with GPS navigates, dead reckoning system and map-matching system are the subdominant ones. The location is calculated by dead reckoning algorithm when the GPS system invalidated which can affact well in short time. And on this basis, data alamangation arithmetic is adopted for higher precision. At the same time control of error scattering is done in decd reckoning model. All this make the security and feasibility to be improved to a high degree. Using the information of digital-map database still can compensate the position error in a scope.Among them on the digital map platform, roads message database of Harbin city was established which was developed by our self lab. Utilization map matching algorithm shows the vehicle track on the correct road. If the data base is precise enough, the precision of station will be developed.Finally, the topic concludes the function and specialty of GPS/DR/MM integrated navigation system and also describes in detail the design and method for the software of integrated vehicles navigation system, building a solid ground for project further developing.
