| STEP-NC is the extension of STEP in compute numbered control, and it defines the standard for adding manufacturing information to part text file describing in STEP product schema. Based on researching deeply on STEP-NC, this paper develops an application system for generating and verifying STEP-NC through redeveloping Unigraphics. This system realizes integration of CAD and CAM. It includes Pre-Processor (generating STEP-NC file), Post-Processor (verifying STEP-NC file) and use interface in UG. This system realizes one body of CAD/CAM, and compatibility between CAM systems using the standard data format STEP-NC file. Furthermore it finishes the integration, and accelerates realization of CIMS.For the convenience of reader to understand the structure of STEP-NC, thus to know the design of the whole system, we outline the STEP standard and its file structures in chapter 2, and the context of STEP-NC and the relationship between STEP and STEP-NC in chapter 3.In the process of designing Pre-Processor, we emphasize the data source of STEP-NC and the format of describing these data in STEP-NC file. Based on analyzing STEP-NC standard, this paper gets the geometric data by reading STEP AP214 file, and manufacturing data through redeveloping UG after planning the part process, finally writes these information to STEP-NC file in the format defined by STEP-NC technical protocol, that is AP238. And now we finish the STEP-NC file.In the process of designing Post-Processor, our aim is converting STEP-NC file to some type CNC control code, and in this way verifying the STEP-NC file gained from Pre_Processor.This system is used like this: drawing the part in UG, and planning its process, and then getting STEP-NC file by the function redeveloped, at last converting STEP-NC file into control code of FANUC system. The result is satisfying. STEP-NC standard not only realizes sharing data between CAM systems, but also support CAD/CAM Interface for CIMS information integration.
