Research On Congestion Control Of High-speed Computer Communication Networks Based On Smith's Principle

With the increase of network traffic, the congestion control is the challenge of network. The first section in this paper analysis the cause of congestion being produced and some works for improving the performance of network and preventing the congestion in these years, summarizing some congestion control methods being researched, analyzing the hot area and challenge at present.The second section in this paper sums up the network model relating to the phenomenon of congestion in the Internet.In the third section of this paper, classical control theory and Smith's principle are applied in designing a class of effective and simple congestion control schemes for high-speed computer communication networks. Mathematical analyses and simulations verify the efficiency of the congestion control schemes. The proposed congestion control laws guarantee full utilization of network links and stability of network queues so that the network has no data loss in a general network topology and traffic scenario. The approach has some advantages over the usual Smith's principle based congestion control scheme; it can be applied to those networks that may have smaller bottleneck capacity. Theoretical analyses and simulation results show good performance of networks if implemented by the congestion controllers, which are designed on the basis of the improved Smith's principle.The forth section is that the application of Smith congestion control is implemented in multiple links and multiple nodes. Simulation results show that the stability and the throughput are better on the basic of the Smith congestion control in multiple links and multiple nodes. Therefore one can conclude that the performances with the Smith congestion control being applied are better than that without the scheme being implemented.
