The edge-based FEM is a new method developed in recent years, which can get rid of the disadvantages of the node-based FEM. such as the problem of false solutions and difficulties of treating interface between different medium and conductor or dielectric edges. The boundary-integral method is suitable for open areas. They are combined into FE-BI method by field continuities, which take advantages of the two methods. The technique is employed to analyze the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of anisotropic dielectric-filled apertures in grounded plane. The obtained results show that the proposed technique is accurate and efficient. Waveguides are being applied extensively in microwave circuits. The edged-based FEM in combination of PML is applied to compute the radiation of an open waveguide in infinite plane. The calculated radiation patterns are in agreement with that obtained by analytical method. The radiation pattern of a sealed waveguide end is also simulated. Some conclusions have been made. These results show that this technique is suitable for related engineering problems.
