It has been many years since the DSP was invented in the eighties of the twentieth century. With the development of technology, DSP has been applied in more and more areas. The development of modern DSP often makes use of the JTAG interface on chip to test and debug in circuit, the JTAG, a group of criterions established by Joint Test Action Group (JTAG), from IEEE1149.1 to 1990. But for traditional DSP without JTAG interface, which still has been used widely, it is necessary to develop a emulator. The emulator, also called extended development system, can be used to test and debug the traditional DSP. The purpose of the paper is to design a emulator for MX1C' s DSP without JTAG.The first five chapters are used for the emulator design. The first chapter is summarize, which introduces the development of emulator and the technology associated the design, USB, FPGA/CPLD, etc. The second chapter introduces the whole hardware design and realization. The third chapter explains how the emulator communications with the host through USB interface. The fourth chapter shows how to design CPLD as the logic control unit and how it works. The fifth chapter introduces how to program to test the device under Windows platform. The last chapter introduces another task during these two years: the improvement for DDC, the key component of software radio system. This way can make the hardware realization of DDC easier and the system frequency higher; also, it provides a good way to realize the high speed DDC in software mode. The simulation experiment has been done for the improved DDC system and the results show that it has good performance.
