Fiber grating is a kind of new optical devices which are playing important roles in optical communication and optical sensors. The study about fiber grating and its application is quite hot today .The tuning technique of fiber grating is more attractive in it.This paper analyzes the optical characteristics of fiber grating according to the theory of mode-coupling in nonsymmetrical optical wave-guide, which affords the gist for the testing of optical characteristics and tuning characteristics of fiber grating. Moreover, we deduce the linear relationship between reflected wavelength shift of fiber grating and vertical displacement of cantilever beam which the fiber grating is sticked on.This paper makes use of popular devices in lab for measuring the spectral property of fiber grating. This makes the basic condition for developing the study of fiber grating. This tuning devices combines the fiber grating with the cantilever beam, realizing the linear relationship of wavelength shift and vertical displacement. Displacement can be accurately confirmed by controlling the screw. The device is simple-configured, well-repeatable, big dynamic rang and good linearity. The characteristic responsibility of this system can be enhanced by improving the configuration of cantilever beam.This paper investigates a method of applying the fiber grating tuning devices to realize the detection of central reflected wavelength of fiber gating, and validates of feasibility. And some major applications of fiber grating technique are discussed.
