Liquid crystal spatial light modulators are important components in the processing of optical information. Optical transfer and information processing can be done by using their modulation characteristics. Different types of LCSLM have different modulation characteristics, in particular their phase modulation characteristic, so this must be measured before it is used. Compared with drawbacks in the available method of measuring the phase modulation characteristic of LCSLM, this thesis offers a new method to measure it by using Cyclic Radial Shearing Interference. In this paper, the distorted wavefront is magnified and reduced when it permeates the cyclic radial shearing interferometer before encountering and creating an interferogram. To work out the wavefront accurately, we modulate it on a carrier frequency. The wavefront can be worked, using the Fourier Transform method on the interferogram. Thus we can obtain the original distorted wavefront by using the wavefront reconstruction algorithm.By this method, we measured the phase modulation characteristics of LCSLM and discovered its full distribution and alteration with different signals. Then, by using relay-imaging system, we can put two LCSLM in series, arrange them in a line and measure the change of phase modulation characteristics.
