Research on brain function is among the most interesting problems in all subjects and one of the most challenges in natural science. Due to having no hurt to human, research on electrical activity in brain is the focus. The present study was supported by the project of National Natural Science Foundation of China "3D Dynamic Imaging of Brain Electrical Activity".Based on analyzing BEM calculation model constructed from MRI and BEM numerical solution, a software package in numerical calculation of EEG was developed; BEM triangulation mesh generation method was mainly investigated and further proposed a mesh generation algorithm through restriction points. The following achievements have been obtained:1. Constructing mesh calculation model of. head. Based on the.segmented head & brain data from MRI, getting the images contour points and then having the mesh nodes from discrete points. At last, using the shortest distance method to mesh the head & brain.2. A triangulation mesh generation algorithm through restriction points was proposed. This algorithm can use the restriction points as mesh nodes and ensure that the triangles are applicable for BEM. The method was proved available and effective. Adaptive mesh generation method was studied, when the computation error at one node was large, adding nodes at the gravity centers of the elements having the node. However, some compressed triangles were generated by the refinement, therefore, the rearrangement of the triangles was required, and at the same time, mesh node number and triangle number were registered. So, the refinement triangulation mesh were generated.3. Some problems in the BEM numerical solution process based on real head model and related techniques were analyzed. A corresponding application software had been developed through a thorough study on BEM techniques. A thought of using Adaptive BEM was presented in order to improve the solution precision.4. The simulation software package of numerical calculation of EEG based on MATLAB had been developed, which including the modules of 3D reconstruction of real head model, BEM numerical solution process and results precision analyse ot BbM.
