Assumption that object-tracking assignment and mode-tracking are both unknown and ionosphere height is uncertain, object tracking using OTH skywave radar is studiedin this paper in the spurious-wave environment, a new algorithm------Mode LinkingMethod Based on Azimuth Tracking (MLAT) is set forth., accompanying with the method of nearest-neighbour estimation based on azimuth angle deviation and the maximum likelihood method based on azimuth angle.Firstly, some conception and characters about OTH skywave radar, and the deference between OTH skywave radar and microwave radar are introduced, also, the structure and feature of ionosphere is brought out. At the same time, two kinds of coordinate system and their coordinate transform are put forward, following with, three kinds of methods for estimating ionosphere height. Based on the theories introduced in this paper, we perform MLAT algorithm. The algorithm completes mode linking using azimuth angle deviation of measured values after estimating azimuth angle. Then, the estimated values in every model enter in filter and least squares method based on azimuth angle deviation is applied to get the location of object being tracked. In the end of this paper Simulations of computer and dimensions of performance present the characteristics of the MLAT algorithm that it can perfectly perform tracking of single target, multitarget and multitarget in spurious-wave environment when they move linearly and uniformly.
